Hadith 1325

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite «والسماء والطارق» and «والسماء ذات البروج» in the Zuhr and Asr prayers.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1322 to 1325)

From these narrations, it is established that in the first two rak‘ahs of Zuhr (Dhuhr) prayer, one should stand for a long duration with lengthy recitation (qira’ah), the length of which should be equivalent to thirty verses or equal to Surah Alif Lam Meem As-Sajdah. And occasionally, it is also permissible to recite shorter surahs, as is evident from the last narration.
