It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When dinner is served and the iqamah is pronounced, then eat the food first."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1314 to 1316)

From these hadiths, it is established that if food is prepared at the time of prayer and one is hungry, then one should first finish eating so that the prayer may be performed with complete tranquility and peace of mind, and the heart and mind are not preoccupied with the food.

This is the mercy and blessing of Islam.
