Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin the prayer with takbir, and would start the recitation with « الْحَمْدُلِلَّهِرَبِّالْعَالَمِينَ », and would end the prayer with tasleem.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1269) That is, the beginning of the prayer was with the opening takbir (takbir al-tahrimah), and the recitation started with “Alhamdulillah” (Surah al-Fatihah), and at the end, they would say “as-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.” In another hadith it is stated: “The key to prayer is ablution (wudu), its sanctification is the takbir, and its de-sanctification is the taslim (salutation),” meaning that after saying “Allahu Akbar,” ordinary speech becomes forbidden, and after saying the salam, it becomes permissible. Reciting aloud (jahran) is established from «يفتتح القرأة بالحمد للّٰه رب العالمين» to «بسم اللّٰهالرحمٰن الرحيم»; details will come under Hadith number 1274.
