باب التَّوَرُّعِ عَنِ الْجَوَابِ فِيمَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ كِتَابٌ وَلاَ سُنَّةٌ:Chapter: Caution in Answering Without Clear Evidence from Qur'an or Sunnah
Hadith 121
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ ابْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: "إِنَّهُ سَيَأْتِي نَاسٌ يُجَادِلُونَكُمْ بِشُبُهَاتِ الْقُرْآنِ، فَخُذُوهُمْ بِالسُّنَنِ، فَإِنَّ أَصْحَابَ السُّنَنِ أَعْلَمُ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ".
Sayyiduna Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Soon there will come people who will argue with you about the mutashabihat (ambiguous) verses of the Qur'an, so you should take hold of them with their hadiths, because the people of the Sunnah have a very good knowledge of the Book of Allah.
