It is narrated from Ata’ (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding a menstruating woman wearing an amulet or a Qur’an (verse) around her neck: He said, if it is written on leather, the woman should remove it, and if it is in a silver case, then there is no harm, she may remove it if she wishes or she may not. Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: Do you also say the same? He replied: Yes.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1207) Hanging amulets (ta‘widh) is, in itself, incorrect, let alone in the state of menstruation (hayd), whether that amulet is written with a Qur’anic verse or with numbers and digits; in no case is it permissible. The most correct opinion of the scholars is this, as is stated in the hadith: «إِنَّالرُّقَيوَالتَّمَائِمَوَالتِّوَلَةًشِرْكٌ.» Incantations (ruqyah), amulets (ta‘widh), and love charms are all shirk (associating partners with Allah). Therefore, one should avoid them. For this hadith «إِنَّالرُّقَي», see: [أبوداؤد 3883], [ابن ماجه 3576], [مسند أحمد 381/1].
