Hadith 120

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Awn, Qasim bin Muhammad said: You people ask about such matters regarding which we did not use to ask questions. And you people argue about such things regarding which we did not use to argue. You inquire about such things that I do not know what they are, and if I had known, it would not have been permissible for us to conceal them from you.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 119)

From this narration, it becomes clear that fabricating hypothetical scenarios and seeking legal verdicts (fatwa) about them is not correct. If someone does not know the ruling on an issue, they should express their ignorance; making random guesses without knowledge is not permissible.

It is also understood from this that concealing knowledge when one is aware of it is not permissible. Such people have been condemned in the Noble Qur’an, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever conceals knowledge, Allah, the Exalted, will bridle him with a bridle of fire.”
