Jami’ bin Umair, a member of the Banu Taym Allah bin Tha’labah, said: I went with my mother and my maternal aunt to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). One of them asked her: How do you perform ghusl (ritual bath)? She replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution for ghusl as he did for prayer, then he would pour water over his head three times, and we, because of our braids, pour water over our heads five times.
