Hadith 113

Ayyub said: I heard Qasim, he was asked, so he said: By Allah, we do not have knowledge of all the things you ask us about, and if we had knowledge, we would neither hide it from you nor would it be permissible for us to hide it.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 111 to 113)

In this statement, the humility, incapacity, and modesty of Qasim bin Muhammad rahimahullah are evident, as well as an allusion to this verse: «﴿وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا﴾ [اسراء : 85]» “You have been given but little knowledge.”
Furthermore, this also expresses his extreme caution in speaking without knowledge. And this Qasim rahimahullah is the son of Muhammad bin Abi Bakr as-Siddiq, who was raised in the lap of his paternal aunt, Umm al-Mu’minin, Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha, and acquired knowledge from her, and was counted among the great jurists (fuqaha) of Madinah. Ibn Sa’d said about him: «كان إماما فقيها ، ثقة رفيعا و رعًا كثير الحديث», and Ayyub as-Sakhtiyani rahimahullah said: I have not seen anyone superior to Qasim.
