Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 1024 to 1036) It is not permissible to recite the Qur’an in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), because the duration of this state is not lengthy; however, one may engage in the remembrance of Allah (dhikr), as has been stated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu. It is also narrated from Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to remember Allah in every condition. As for a menstruating woman (ha’idhah), she may recite the Qur’an, as has already been mentioned. See: Tawdhih al-Athar, number (1011).
