Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) says: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), two men stated their lineage. One said: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so. May your mother not remain, who are you?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Two men in the time of Musa (peace be upon him) stated their lineage. One said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so...' (he mentioned nine ancestors), 'May your mother not remain, who are you?' The other said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, son of Islam.' Allah, the Exalted, revealed to Musa (peace be upon him) to say to those two men who stated their lineage: 'You, who mentioned your lineage up to nine ancestors, your nine ancestors are in Hell and you are the tenth among them. And you, who mentioned two ancestors, your two ancestors are in Paradise and you are the third, who will enter Paradise.'"
