Hadith 3862
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "There were three men among the Children of Israel: one was afflicted with leprosy (white patches), the second was bald, and the third was blind. Allah Almighty intended to test them, so He sent an angel who first came to the leper and asked him, 'Which thing is most beloved to you?' He replied, 'A good complexion, a beautiful body, and that this disease be removed from me because of which people feel disgusted with me.' The angel passed his hand over his body, and (by Allah's command) his repulsive disease was removed and he was given a beautiful complexion. The angel then asked him, 'Which wealth do you like most?' He replied, 'Camels or cows.' (Ishaq, the narrator, was unsure about this, but it is certain that one of the leper and the bald mentioned camels and the other mentioned cows.) So he was given a pregnant she-camel about to give birth, and the angel prayed for him, 'May Allah bless you in it.'
Then the angel came to the bald man and asked, 'Which thing is most beloved to you?' He said, 'Good hair, and that my (baldness) be removed, because people dislike me because of it.' The angel passed his hand over his body, and his baldness was removed and (by Allah Almighty) he was given beautiful hair. The angel asked him, 'Which wealth do you like most?' He said, 'Cows.' So he was given a pregnant cow and was prayed for, 'May Allah bless you in it.'
After that, the angel came to the blind man and asked him, 'Which thing is most beloved to you?' He said, 'That Allah Almighty restores my eyesight so that I may see people.' The angel passed his hand over him, and Allah Almighty restored his eyesight. The angel asked him, 'Which wealth do you like most?' He said, 'Goats.' So he was given a pregnant goat.
Thus, the previous two (the leper and the bald) also had their animals multiply greatly, and the blind man’s goats also gave birth. So (the leper had) a valley full of camels, the bald man had a valley full of cows, and the blind man had a valley full of goats.
Then the angel came to the leper in his former appearance and form and said, 'I am a poor man, my means have been exhausted in travel, today I have no means to reach my homeland except through Allah Almighty and then through you. Therefore, I ask you, by the One who gave you a good complexion, a beautiful body, and wealth, for a camel so that I may reach my destination in my journey.' He replied, '(I already have) many obligations.' Hearing this, the angel said to him, 'It seems I recognize you. Were you not the one who had white patches on your body, people felt disgusted with you, you were poor, and Allah Almighty granted you wealth?' He said, 'This wealth I inherited from my forefathers.' The angel said, 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to what you were.'
Now the angel came to the bald man in his original form and said to him what he had said to the leper, and the bald man also gave the same reply as the leper, upon which the angel also cursed him, 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to what you were.'
The angel (then) came to the blind man and said, 'I am a poor and traveling man, my means have been exhausted in travel, today I must reach my homeland, and it is not possible without Allah Almighty’s help and then your financial assistance. Therefore, I ask you, by the One who restored your eyesight, for a goat so that I may reach my destination.' The blind man said, 'Indeed, I was blind, Allah Almighty restored my eyesight (before you is a herd of goats, so) take whatever you wish and leave whatever you wish. By Allah! Today, I will not argue with you about whatever you take for Allah’s sake.' Hearing this, the angel said to him, 'Keep your wealth with you, indeed you have been tested (in which you succeeded), so Allah Almighty is pleased with you (and your two companions failed), your Lord is displeased with them.'"
