Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Since the time Allah Almighty revealed the Torah, He has not destroyed any nation, any race, any community, or any people living in a town on the face of the earth with a heavenly punishment. However, the people of one village were transformed into monkeys. Do you not see the statement of Allah Almighty: «وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا أَهْلَكْنَا الْقُرُونَ الْأُولَى بَصَائِرَ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ» ‘And after We had destroyed the former generations, We gave Moses the Book as an enlightenment for mankind and as guidance and mercy that they might take heed.’ (28-al-Qasas:43)”
