Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting among his companions when suddenly he said: "Do you hear what I am hearing?" They said: We are not hearing anything. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, I am hearing the creaking of the sky, and it cannot be blamed for creaking, for there is not even a space of a handspan in it where there is not an angel prostrating or standing in prayer."

Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting among his companions (may Allah be pleased with them), when suddenly he (peace be upon him) began to ask: "Do you hear what I am hearing?" They replied: "We are not hearing anything." He (peace be upon him) said: "I am hearing the creaking of the sky, and it is only fitting that it should creak, for there is not even a space the width of a handspan in it except that there is an angel in prostration or standing (in worship)."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There is not even a space the size of a footstep in the sky of this world except that there is an angel there, either in prostration or standing (in worship). This is in accordance with the statement of the angels: ‘And there is not one of us but has an assigned place. And verily, we are those who stand in rows. And verily, we are those who glorify (Allah).’” (__QUR_37:164__, __QUR_37:165__, __QUR_37:166__)
