Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I brought some dates to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah for blessing in them. He placed them in front of him and prayed for blessing, then said: "Abu Hurairah! Pick them up and gather them in your bag. When you intend to take out dates from it, put your hand inside and take them out, and do not scatter them." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I took out many (and according to one narration, fifty) wasqs of dates from that bag in the way of Allah. We kept eating from it, and I used to keep that bag tied to my back. On the day Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, that bag was cut from my back and those dates fell out.
