Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was mentioned in the presence of his uncle Abu Talib. He said: "Perhaps my intercession will benefit him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be placed in a shallow part of the Fire, which will reach up to his ankles, and from its heat his brain will begin to boil."

Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: O Messenger of Allah! Has your uncle Abu Talib received any benefit from you, because he used to protect you and become angry for your sake? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Yes, now he will be in a shallow part of the Fire, and if it were not for my intercession, he would have been in the lowest depths of Hell."
