Sayyiduna Humaid bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was in a corner of Madinah (in a settlement). When he came, he lifted the cloth from your face, kissed you, and said: "May my parents be sacrificed for you, how pure you are, whether alive or deceased. By the Lord of the Ka'bah! Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has passed away..." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) went to the Ansar. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to them and mentioned all the verses and hadiths of the Messenger regarding them, and also said: "(O Ansar!) You know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'If people walk in one valley and the Ansar walk in another valley, I will walk in the valley of the Ansar with them.'" Sa'd! You know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, and you were sitting there: "'The Quraysh are responsible and deserving of this (caliphate) matter. The righteous people will follow the righteous Quraysh, and the evil people will be under the evil Quraysh.'" Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You are speaking the truth, we are the ministers and you are the rulers." This hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with them both).

He says: I came to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) along with some young men from the Quraysh, and at that time he had become blind. We saw that a rope was hanging from the ceiling and in front of it there were loaves of bread or pieces of bread placed. Whenever a poor person asked for food, Sayyiduna Jabir would pick up a piece, hold the rope, and with its guidance reach the poor person, hand him the piece, and then return and sit down again, guided by the rope. I said: May Allah grant you health and well-being, we could have easily handed the piece to the poor person (you could have told us, why did you trouble yourself?). He said: Actually, I went myself with the intention of earning reward, then he said: Shall I not narrate to you a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which I myself heard from him? We said: Why not, (please do narrate). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, the Quraysh are trustworthy. Whoever seeks out their faults, Allah, the Exalted, will throw him down on his nostrils (face down)."
