Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abu Nazrah narrates from Abdullah bin Mula, who says: I was walking in Ahwaz when I saw a man riding ahead of me on a mule, saying: "O Allah! My time among this Ummah has ended, so now join me with them (the deceased predecessors)." I said from behind: "And me too (i.e., include me in your supplication), so that I may also be a part of your prayer." He said: "And this companion of mine too, if he so wishes." Then he said that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best people of my Ummah are those who are of my time (my contemporaries), then those who will come after them. I do not remember whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said these words a third time or not. Then such unworthy people will appear among whom (due to their inclination towards worldly pleasures) obesity will become apparent (i.e., they will like to eat various kinds of foods), and they will hasten to give (false) testimonies before being asked." The man riding the mule was Sayyiduna Buraidah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best individuals of my Ummah are those among whom I was sent, then those who will come after them (i.e., the Tabi‘in), then those who will come after them (i.e., the Tabi‘ Tabi‘in)." Allah Almighty knows best whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the third time or not. "Then there will arise people who will love obesity and will bear witness though they will not be asked to bear witness."

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best individuals of my Ummah are those among whom I was sent, then those who will come after them, then those who will come after them." Allah Almighty knows best whether he mentioned the third time or not. "Then there will come people who will give testimony though it will not be sought from them, they will make vows but will not fulfill them, they will be treacherous and will not be trustworthy, and among them (due to inclination towards worldly pleasures) obesity will become common."

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "My contemporaries are the best of people, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Then there will come people among whom obesity will become common (due to desire for worldly pleasures), they will give testimony though it will not be sought from them, and they will create noise and commotion in the markets."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, and then those who come after them. After them, there will come people who will love obesity, and they will give testimonies though they will not be asked for them."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, and then those who come after them. Then there will come people whose testimonies will precede their oaths, and their oaths will precede their testimonies."
