Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Narrated from Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) that she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I saw an ugly dream last night. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: "What is it?" She said: It is very severe. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What is it, after all?" She said: It seemed to me that a piece of your body was cut off and thrown into my lap. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You have seen a good dream, (its interpretation is that) insha’Allah, my daughter Fatimah will give birth to a child who will be in your lap." Indeed, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to a child, Husayn, who was in my lap, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said. One day I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and placed Husayn in his lap. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked towards him, tears were flowing from his eyes. I said: O Prophet of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, what has happened to you? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Jibril (peace be upon him) came to me and informed me that my Ummah will kill this son of mine." I said: This son (Husayn)? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Yes, and he brought me some red soil from that land."

Lady Aisha and Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with them) narrate that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to one of them: "Today, such an angel came to me in the house who had never come before. He said to me: 'This beautiful son of yours will be killed. If you wish, I can show you the soil of his place of killing.' Then he took out red soil (and showed it to me)."

Abdullah bin Naji narrates from his father that he was walking with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), carrying a vessel of water for purification. When they reached the place of Nainawa on their way to Siffin, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) called out: "Abu Abdullah! Stop, stop by the bank of the Euphrates River." I asked: "What is here?" He said: "One day I went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and his eyes were filled with tears. I asked: 'O Messenger of Allah! Has someone angered you? Why are your eyes shedding tears?' He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: 'Before you came, Jibreel (Gabriel) had just left me. He informed me that Husayn will be killed by the bank of the Euphrates River.' Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'He (Jibreel) said: Shall I let you smell the fragrance of its soil?' I said: 'Yes.' So he stretched out his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me. I could not control myself and began to weep.'"
