Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: «ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ مَا بَالُ النِّسْوَةِ اللَّاتِي قَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ إِنَّ رَبِّي بِكَيْدِهِنَّ عَلِيمٌ» "(Yusuf said:) Return to your king and ask him what is the case of the women who cut their hands. Surely, my Lord is All-Knowing of their plot." (12-Yusuf:50) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were in his place, I would have accepted quickly and would not have sought an excuse."
