Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says: The Quraysh said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Pray to your Lord that the mountain of Safa becomes gold, (if this happens) we will believe in you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(Really) will you do so?” They said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, Jibreel (peace be upon him) came and said: Your Lord sends you greetings, and also said: If you wish, the mountain of Safa will become gold for them, but after this miracle, whoever disbelieves, I will punish him with such a punishment as I have not given to anyone in the worlds; and if you wish, I will keep the door of repentance and mercy open for them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(Alright, instead of this miracle) I want the door of repentance and mercy.”
