Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abu Wa'il says: A man came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Commander of the Faithful! I have become unable to fulfill my contract of manumission, please help me. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not teach you the words that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught me? Even if you had a debt equal to the mountain of Seer in dinars or otherwise, Allah, the Exalted, would pay it off for you. He said: Why not, (certainly teach me). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Recite this supplication: O Allah! Suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and make me independent of all others by Your grace.
