Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Ata says: I and Ubaid bin Umair went to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Abdullah bin Umair said: Tell us about any amazing act of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that you witnessed. She began to weep and said: One night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said, “Aisha! Let me worship my Lord.” I said: By Allah! I love your closeness, but I also love that which pleases you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up, performed ablution, and then began to pray. He continued to weep until his lap became wet, then he wept and kept weeping until the ground became wet. Meanwhile, our master Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to inform about the Fajr prayer. When he found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping, he said: O Messenger of Allah! Why do you weep so much, when Allah Almighty has forgiven your past and future sins? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Should I not be a grateful servant of Allah? Tonight, some verses have been revealed to me; woe to the one who recites them but does not reflect upon them. The verses are: «إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ . . . » (3-Aal Imran:190).”
