Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyidah Umaymah bint Ruqayqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with a group of women to pledge allegiance to him. We said: O Messenger of Allah! We pledge allegiance to you that we will not associate anything with Allah, will not steal, will not commit adultery, will not kill our children, will not fabricate slander, and will not disobey you in matters of goodness. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "(Alright) but according to your ability and power." We said: Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than our own selves. O Messenger of Allah! Now come (and extend your hand) so that we may pledge allegiance. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I do not shake hands with women; my verbal agreement with a hundred women is like my verbal agreement with one woman."
