Hadith 2584
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Salim or Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was sitting among the Companions. I said: Who among you is the Prophet? In response, either he (peace be upon him) pointed to himself or the people pointed towards him. He (peace be upon him) was sitting with a sheet wrapped around his knees and waist, with his knees raised and sitting on his buttocks, and the edge of the sheet was touching his feet. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I am somewhat harsh by nature regarding certain things, please teach me. He (peace be upon him) said: “Fear Allah, do not consider any good deed insignificant, even if it is pouring water into the vessel of one who asks for water. Avoid arrogance, for Allah does not like arrogance. If a man abuses you and taunts you for a fault of yours that he knows, do not taunt him for a fault that you know of his. By doing so, you will receive the reward and the burden of his sin will be upon him. And (also remember that) do not abuse anyone.”
