Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when suddenly a young man appeared coming from a mountain path. When we saw him, we said: If only this young man would dedicate his youth, vigor, and strength in the way of Allah. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard our words, he said: "Is the way of Allah only that in which one is martyred? Whoever strives for his parents, he is in the way of Allah; whoever strives for his family, he is also in the way of Allah; whoever strives to keep himself chaste, he is also in the way of Allah. Yes, whoever strives to accumulate more wealth, he is in the way of Satan, and according to another narration, in the way of Taghut (false gods)."
