Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed the spoils of Hunayn at the place of Ji’ranah. The companions crowded around him greatly. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There was a servant among the servants of Allah, Allah sent him to his people, they denied him and broke his head. He was wiping the blood from his forehead and saying: O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.” Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: It is as if I am still seeing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while he was imitating that man, wiping his forehead.
