Hadith 2438
- (كذلك سَوْقُكَ بالقوارير، يعني النساء. قاله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - في حجة الوداع) .
It is narrated from Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj with his wives. During the journey, a man came and drove the mounts of the Mothers of the Believers quickly. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Is this how you drive glass vessels?” So they were moving along when the camel of Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy sat down, even though her mount was the best among them, and she began to weep. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found out, he came and began to wipe her tears with his hand. She wept even more, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to console her. When she wept excessively, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) scolded her and ordered the people to dismount, so they dismounted, even though the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not intended to dismount. She says: The Companions dismounted, and that day was my turn. When the Companions dismounted, the tent of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was set up, and he entered it. She says: I could not understand how I could go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I was also afraid that perhaps there might be some displeasure in his heart regarding me. She says: (In any case) I went to Sayyidah Aisha and said to her: You know that I would not trade my day for anything, but I gift you my turn on the condition that you reconcile the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to me. She said: Alright. Now she says: Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) took a cloak dyed with saffron and sprinkled water on it so that its fragrance would be refreshed, then she dressed herself and went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and (upon arrival) lifted a corner of the tent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “O Aisha! What is the matter with you? This is not your day.” She said: This is the bounty of Allah; He gives it to whom He wills. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with his wife. When evening came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Zainab bint Jahsh: “O Zainab! Lend your sister Safiyyah a camel.” In fact, she had more mounts. But Zainab said: Should I lend your Jewess? Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry with her and broke off communication, and did not speak to her until he reached Mecca. Then, during the Prophet’s journey, the days at Mina also passed, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to Madinah, and the months of Muharram and Safar (two months) also passed, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) neither went to Zainab nor allotted her any turn. She too lost hope in him. When the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to her. Zainab saw his shadow and said: This is the shadow of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you do not come to me, so who could this (shadow) be? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon her. When Zainab saw him, she said: O Messenger of Allah! (I am so happy at your coming that) I do not know what to do. She says: She had a slave-girl whom she used to keep hidden from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then she said: Such-and-such slave-girl is for you. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the bed of Sayyidah Zainab, which had been removed, and he spread it with his own hand, then had relations with his wife and was pleased with her.
