Hadith 2344
Ziyal bin Utbah bin Khanzalah says: I heard from my grandfather Khazlah bin Huzaym, who says that his grandfather Hanifah said to Huzaym: Gather my sons, I want to make a bequest. So he gathered them, and Hanifah said: My very first bequest is that there are one hundred camels for the orphan under my care, which we used to call "Mutayyibah" in the days of ignorance. Huzaym said: O my father! I heard your sons saying: We will acknowledge this in the gathering before our father, but when he passes away, we will go back on our agreement. Hanifah said: Then let us make the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) a witness between us. Huzaym said: We are pleased with that. So Huzaym and Hanifah set out, and with them was the orphan boy, who was sitting behind Huzaym. When they reached the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), they greeted him with salam. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked: (O Abu Huzaym! What brings you here?) He said: This, then he struck Huzaym's thigh with his hand and said: I fear that old age or sudden death may come upon me, so I intended to bequeath one hundred camels for this child under my care, which we used to call "Mutayyibah" in the days of ignorance. Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) became angry, so much so that we saw the signs of anger on his face. At first, the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting, but upon hearing this, he sat up on his knees and said: "No, no, no. Charity may be of five (camels), otherwise ten, or fifteen, or twenty, (if someone wishes to exceed this) then twenty-five, otherwise thirty, or thirty-five, and if more is intended, then forty." They bade farewell to the Prophet (ﷺ), and the orphan had a stick with which he was striking the camel. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "It is hard for the orphan to walk like this." Sayyiduna Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My father drew near to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: Some of my sons have beards and some are young, and this one is the youngest among them, so please supplicate to Allah for him. The Prophet (ﷺ) passed his hand over his head and said: "May Allah bless you, or may blessing be placed in you." Ziyal said: I saw Hanzalah that if a person with an inflamed face was brought to him, or an animal with inflamed udders was brought, he would spit on his hand, say Bismillah, and place his hand on its head, saying: In the place of the palm of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), then he would pass his hand over it. Ziyal said: The inflammation would go away.
