Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which one of you is there who loves the wealth of his heir more than his own wealth?" The companions replied: O Messenger of Allah! Every one of us loves his own wealth more than that of his heir. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Know this! Every one of you loves his own wealth more than that of his heir. (Remember that) your wealth is only that which you have sent forward (by giving in charity and good deeds), and whatever you leave behind will be the wealth of your heir."
