Hadith 2209
- " مالي وللدنيا؟! ما أنا والدنيا؟! إنما مثلي ومثل الدنيا كراكب ظل تحت شجرة ثم راح وتركها ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lay down on a mat made of date palm leaves and similar things, and its marks appeared on his side. When he woke up, I began to rub my hand over his side and said: O Messenger of Allah! Why did you not inform us? We would have spread (some bedding or something) for you on the mat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “What have I to do with the world? What relation do I have with the world? My example and the example of the world is like that of a rider who sat under the shade of a tree (for a few moments to rest), and then left it and went on his way.”
Hadith 2210
- " ما لي وللدنيا؟! ما مثلي ومثل الدنيا إلا كراكب سار في يوم صائف، فاستظل تحت شجرة ساعة من نهار، ثم راح وتركها ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting on a mat made of palm leaves and similar things, and its marks appeared on his side. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah! If you could have a soft bedding made (it would be better)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do I have to do with the world (and its comforts)? My example and the example of the world is like that of a rider who traveled on a hot day and (to rest) stayed for a short while in the shade of a tree, and then left it and moved on."
