Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Abu Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying on the pulpit: "Avoid the seven major sins." The people remained silent and no one said anything (regarding the details). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Why do you not ask me about these (seven sins)? They are: associating anyone with Allah, unjustly killing a soul, fleeing from battle at the time of fighting the disbelievers, consuming the wealth of an orphan, consuming usury, slandering chaste women, and after migration, settling in the desert and becoming a Bedouin again."
