Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Jadd bin Qais! Do you have the desire to fight Banu al-Asfar with the sword?" Jadd said: O Messenger of Allah! Grant me permission (not to go with you), because I love women and I fear that I may fall into temptation upon seeing the daughters of Banu al-Asfar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned away from him and said: "I have granted you permission." At that time Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: «وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ ائْذَنْ لِي وَلَا تَفْتِنِّي أَلَا فِي الْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا» "And among them is he who says: 'Grant me leave and do not put me to trial.' Surely, they have already fallen into trial." (9-At-Tawbah:49)
