Hadith 2139
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, the first people whose cases will be decided are (these): (1) The man who was martyred, he will be brought, Allah Almighty will make him recognize His blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Then Allah Almighty will ask: What did you do? He will say: I fought for Your sake until I was martyred. Allah Almighty will say: You are lying, you fought so that you would be called brave, and that has already been said. Then it will be ordered regarding him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. (2) The man who acquired knowledge, taught it, and recited the Qur'an, he will be brought, Allah Almighty will make him recognize His blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Then Allah Almighty will ask: What did you do? He will say: I acquired knowledge for Your sake, taught it, and recited the Qur'an. Allah Almighty will say: You are lying, you acquired knowledge so that you would be called a scholar, and you recited the Qur'an so that you would be called a reciter, and that has already been said. Then it will be ordered regarding him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into the Fire. (3) The man whom Allah Almighty gave abundance in provision and granted all kinds of wealth, he will be brought, Allah Almighty will make him recognize His blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Then Allah Almighty will ask: What did you do? He will say: I spent wealth in every cause where You liked it to be spent. Allah Almighty will say: You are lying, you did so that you would be called generous, and that has already been said. Then it will be ordered regarding him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell."

Hadith 2140
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two types of expeditions: (1) Whoever seeks Allah's pleasure (by striving), obeys the ruler, spends good wealth, and avoids corruption, then his sleeping and waking are all acts of worship; and (2) whoever strives out of pride, showing off, and for fame, disobeys the ruler, and spreads corruption in the land, then he will not return with any reward at all."
