Hadith 1891
Sulaiman bin Buraidah narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I used to forbid you from keeping the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days so that the wealthy could benefit the poor. Now (since there is prosperity), eat, feed, and store it as long as you wish."
Hadith 1892
- " إنه أعظم للبركة. يعني الطعام الذي ذهب فوره ودخانه ".
Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from eating the meat of sacrificial animals after three days. I went on a journey and then returned home. This was a few days after Eid al-Adha. My wife brought a kind of vegetable «سلق» (beetroot) and there was dried meat in it. I asked: Where did these pieces of meat come from? She said: They are from our sacrifice. I said: Did not the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbid us from eating (the meat of sacrifice) after three days? She said: But later the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave people permission. But I did not confirm my wife’s statement and sent a message to my brother Qatadah bin Nu‘man, who was a participant of Badr, and asked him about it. He replied with this message: Eat your (meat) food, your wife is truthful, indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has given Muslims permission for this.
