Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Aliyah bint Sabi’ says: I had some goats at the place of Uhud, and they began to die. I went to the wife of the Messenger, Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and mentioned the situation. She said: If you benefit from their skins (it is permissible). I asked: Will it be lawful for me to do so? She said: Yes. Some people were dragging their (dead) goat like a donkey past the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: “If only you had taken its skin.” They said: It is dead. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Water and the leaves of the qaradh tree will purify it.”
