Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade visiting graves, (the use of four types of) vessels, and storing the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days. But (after some time) he said: "Indeed, I had forbidden you from visiting graves, but (now I command you to) visit them, for they remind you of the Hereafter. And I had forbidden you from (some) vessels, but (now I command you to) use them for drinks, and avoid everything that intoxicates. And I had forbidden you from storing the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days, but (now I say) keep the meat with you for as long as you wish."

Abu Aliah reports that when Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the nabidh (fermented drink) of a pitcher, he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden nabidh made in a pitcher.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the people of the delegation of Abdul Qais asked: O Messenger of Allah! In which vessels should we not drink? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not drink in gourds, tar-coated vessels, and hollowed-out wooden bowls resembling cups, and prepare nabidh (fermented drink) in water skins." They said: O Messenger of Allah! What if (nabidh) in the water skins also starts to ferment? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(In that case) add more water to it." They said: O Messenger of Allah... Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told them for the third or fourth time, "Pour it away." Then he said: "Indeed, Allah the Exalted has forbidden for me wine, gambling, «كوبه», and every intoxicating thing." Sufyan says: I asked Ali bin Badhimah about «كوبه»? He said: It refers to the drum.
