Hadith 1828
The companion who served the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for eight years narrates that whenever any food was brought near the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah), and when he finished eating, he would say: "O Allah! You fed, You gave drink, You satisfied and enriched, You guided, and You gave life, so all praise is for You (for these blessings) which You have bestowed."
Hadith 1829
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ate food or drank water, he would recite this supplication: "All praise is due to Allah who fed, gave drink, made it digestible, and made a way for its excretion."
Hadith 1830
Sayyiduna Umar bin Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was a boy under the care of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and while eating, my hand began to wander around the plate (i.e., I started eating from different places). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: "O boy! When you begin to eat, say 'Bismillah', eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you."
Hadith 1831
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I and Khalid bin Walid went to our maternal aunt, Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). She said: O Messenger of Allah! My brother, who lives in the desert, has presented a gift; should I feed it to you? Then she brought two roasted lizards, hanging on a bunch of dates. But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not among the foods of my people, and I feel aversion to it." Then Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas and Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with them) ate them, but Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The food which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) does not eat, I also do not eat. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a drink, and a bowl of milk was presented. He (peace and blessings be upon him) drank it. On his right was Ibn Abbas and on his left was Khalid bin Walid. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Will you permit me to give it to Khalid?" Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I will not give preference to anyone over myself regarding the leftover of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) took the vessel and drank the milk, then Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) drank. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever Allah feeds, let him say: O Allah! Bless us in it and grant us better sustenance than it. And whoever Allah gives milk to drink, let him say: O Allah! Bless us in it and grant us more of it, for I know of nothing that suffices for both food and drink except milk."
Hadith 1832
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to drink (a beverage) in three breaths. When he brought the vessel close to his mouth, he would mention the name of Allah, and when he moved (the vessel away from his mouth), he would praise Allah the Exalted. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would do this three times.
