Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Masruq and Amr bin Utbah wrote a letter to Sayyidah Subai’ah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked her to clarify her situation. She replied: My child was born twenty-five days after my husband’s death, and I prepared for another marriage. Abu Sanabil bin Ba’kkak passed by me and said: You are rushing; you should complete the longer of the two waiting periods, that is, four months and ten days. I went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Seek forgiveness for me. He said: “For what?” When I explained everything in detail, he said: “If you find a righteous man, then marry him.” (Your waiting period has ended.)
