Hadith 1525
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id and Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once delivered a lengthy sermon, mentioning matters of this world and the Hereafter, and said: “The first way the Children of Israel were destroyed was that the wife of a poor man would trouble her husband regarding clothes or jewelry, just as the wife of a wealthy man would. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned a short-statured woman from the Children of Israel: she had wooden sandals (khadaun) made and had a ring made, in which there was a hollow and a lid over it. She filled that hollow with musk and went out accompanied by two tall or heavily built women. They sent a man behind them; he recognized the two tall women but could not recognize the woman with the wooden sandals.”
