Silsilah Sahihah

Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when I came to Najran, the people there asked me, “You people say (about Lady Maryam [peace be upon her]) ‘O sister of Harun’ «يٰٓاُخْتَ هٰرُوْنَ», whereas (Harun’s brother) Musa [peace be upon him] was much before Isa [peace be upon him] (so how could Lady Maryam [peace be upon her] be the sister of Sayyiduna Harun [peace be upon him])?” When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I asked him about this. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “They used to name (their children) after their prophets and righteous predecessors (i.e., Lady Maryam [peace be upon her] had a brother named Harun, and Musa [peace be upon him] also had a brother named Harun).”

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They used to name (their children) after their prophets and righteous predecessors (that is, the brother of Lady Maryam (peace be upon her) was also named Harun, and the brother of Musa (peace be upon him) was also named Harun)."
