Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Ata bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Is there any sin in lying to one’s wife? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not lie, Allah does not like lying.” He said: O Messenger of Allah, (by lying) I want to make peace with her and make her happy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then there is no sin.”
