Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I live to see such rulers, what should I do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O son of Umm Abd! His companions said to him: "Do you not accept the responsibility of Khurasan?" He replied: "By Allah! I do not find it good that I should continue to burn in the fire of battles while you people arrive peacefully after victory. In fact, I fear that I will be facing the enemy and a letter from Ziyad will reach me. After that, if I advance, I will be destroyed, and if I return, my neck will be cut." After him, Ziyad intended to send Sayyiduna Hakam bin Amr Ghafari (may Allah be pleased with him), and he accepted the order. Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Will someone call Hakam to me?" In response, a messenger went and set out towards him and reached him. Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him): "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that there is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah, the Blessed and Exalted?" This commander lit a fire and said: "Enter into it." Some people (in obedience to the commander) actually intended to enter, while others said: "We accepted Islam in order to escape from the fire (and now...)." When this incident was reported to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he said to those who wanted to enter: "If you had entered the fire, you would have remained in it until the Day of Resurrection." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) praised the other people and said: "There is no obedience to any human being in disobedience to Allah; obedience is only in good deeds."
