Implementing legal punishment is expiation for sin
Hadith 1196
- " أيما عبد أصاب شيئا مما نهى الله عنه، ثم أقيم عليه حده، كفر عنه ذلك الذنب ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If a person commits any of the prohibitions of Allah Almighty and the prescribed punishment is carried out upon him, then that sin will be erased from him."
Hadith 1197
- " من أصاب ذنبا أقيم عليه حد ذلك الذنب، فهو كفارته ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever commits a sin and the prescribed punishment for his crime is carried out upon him, then that will be an expiation for that sin."
