Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Each of you should become independent of people, even if it is with a miswak stick."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is afflicted with poverty and presents it before people (to fulfill it), his poverty will not be fulfilled. And whoever presents his poverty before Allah Almighty, it is near that Allah Almighty will grant him sufficiency: either in the form of a swift death or in the form of swift wealth."
