Hadith 1151
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man was in a desert when he heard the sound of thunder from a cloud, and in it he also heard a voice saying: 'Water the garden of so-and-so (mentioning the man's name specifically).' The cloud then moved towards a rocky land and rained down water upon it. The water began to flow into the channels above, until it reached a large channel of the same kind, which collected all the water (and then started flowing in a certain direction down the slope). The man followed the cloud and reached a person who was watering his garden. He said: 'O servant of Allah! What is your name?' The man replied: 'Why do you ask?' He said: 'I heard a voice in the cloud from which this water came, saying: "Water the garden of so-and-so," and your name was mentioned in that voice. (Now tell me) what do you do with your crops at the time of harvest and fruit picking?' He replied: 'Since you have asked, (the detail is that) I divide the produce into three parts: I keep one third for myself and my family, I replant one third, and I give one third to the poor, the needy, and travelers.'"
