Hadith 1148
- " كل مال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صدقة إلا ما أطعمه أهله وكساهم، إنا لا نورث ".
Abu Bakhtari says: I heard a hadith from a man, and I liked it. I said to him: Write it down for me. Meanwhile, a letter was brought to them, in which it was written: Sayyiduna Abbas and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) went to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to demand (the inheritance of the Prophet ﷺ), and with him were Sayyiduna Talha, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman, and Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with them). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to those (four companions): Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “All the wealth of a Prophet is charity (i.e., endowed), except that he may feed and clothe his family (i.e., their expenses may be exempted); we (the Prophets) are not inherited from.” They said: Of course (we have heard it). Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to spend his wealth on his family and give the surplus in charity. Then, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was in charge of this matter for two years, and he did the same as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do. Then he mentioned a part of the hadith of Malik bin Aws.
