Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Shibl (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, traders are sinners." Someone said: O Messenger of Allah! Has Allah Almighty not made buying and selling lawful? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why not. But (the situation of these traders is that) when they speak, they lie, and they swear oaths (falsely), thus they become sinners."

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A Bedouin passed by me with a goat. I said: Will you sell it for three dirhams? He said: No, by Allah! Then he sold it anyway. When I informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) of this, he said: "He has sold his Hereafter for the sake of this world."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayd bin Rifa’ah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) towards the Eid ground. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw people buying and selling and said: “O assembly of traders!” They responded to the call of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) by raising their necks and gazes towards him. Then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, traders will be raised as sinners, except for the one who fears Allah, does good deeds, and speaks the truth.”

Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us in Baqi‘ and said: “O assembly of traders!” They stretched their necks and looked. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, traders will be raised as wicked people, except for the one who feared Allah, did good deeds, and spoke the truth.”
