Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Make the sustenance of the family of Muhammad sufficient for their needs (and just enough to sustain them)."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! In the morning, there would not be even a sa’ of grain or dates with the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."

Sayyiduna Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not even have inferior quality dates to fill his stomach, even though he would be hungry.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that several consecutive nights would pass in a state of hunger for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family, and they would not have any dinner; (on other days) mostly only barley bread would be available to them.
