Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Busar bin Jahash Qurashi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: "(So, O Prophet!) What is the matter with these disbelievers, that they rush towards you in crowds from the right and from the left? Does every one of them hope to enter the Garden of Bliss (Paradise)? Never! Indeed, they know from what We created them." (Surah Al-Ma'arij: 36-39) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spat on his palm and said: "Allah says: O son of Adam! How can you render Me powerless? I created you from this kind of water, until when I fashioned you properly (and perfected all your limbs) and made you beautiful, so much so that when you began to walk in two pieces of cloth and gained dignity on the earth, you started gathering wealth and hoarding it (out of miserliness), and when (at the time of death) the soul reached the collarbones, you began to say: (Now) I give charity. But now, where is the time for charity?!"
