Zaid bin Aslam narrates from his father that there was a favored man among the people of Syria. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: "Which quality do you possess because of which the people of Syria love you?" He replied: "I participate in jihad with them and show sympathy towards them." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him ten thousand (dinars) and said: "Take this and use it in your expeditions." He said: "I have no need for it." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered me less wealth than what I have offered you, and I said the same thing that you have said, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'When Allah gives you some wealth, while you neither asked for it nor were eager for it, then accept it, for it is Allah’s provision which He is granting you.'"
